Delete your JanRaksh account

This page explains how to permanently delete your account and personal data from the JanRaksh app. You can request deletion at any time, for any reason, and you do not need to give us one. You do not need the app installed to make the request.

How to request deletion

  1. 1

    Send us a deletion request

Email support@janraksh.com from any email address, with the subject "Delete my account".

  2. 2

    Tell us which account

Include the mobile number you use to sign in to JanRaksh, and your username if you know it. We need this to find the right account.

  3. 3

    Confirm it is you

We will send a one-time code by SMS to that mobile number. Reply with the code. This step protects you — it stops anyone else from deleting your account.

  4. 4

    We delete it

Once confirmed, your account and personal data are permanently deleted. We email you when it is done.

Write to support@janraksh.com to start. We reply to every request within 7 days, and complete the deletion within 30 days at the latest.

What is deleted

Deleting your account removes the following permanently. It cannot be undone, and we cannot restore an account once it has been deleted.

  • Your profile: name, username, mobile number, email address, date of birth, profile photo, bio, home area, and any education or work details you added.
  • Your identity verification record, including your verified name and the masked Aadhaar reference. (We never store your Aadhaar number at any point.)
  • Everything you posted: posts, photos, videos, comments and replies.
  • Your private messages and community chat messages.
  • Your community memberships and any volunteer roles.
  • Your SOS history: alerts you raised, alerts you responded to, and any location records linked to them.
  • Any audio recorded automatically during a Women Safety SOS you raised. The encryption key is destroyed, which makes those recordings permanently unplayable by anyone, including us.

What is kept, and for how long

We would rather tell you plainly than leave this vague. A small amount of information survives deletion:

Encrypted backups

Our systems keep automatic backups so data can be recovered after a technical failure. Your data is removed from these within 30 days of deletion, after which it is gone entirely.

A minimal record that the account was deleted

We keep the date of the request and the fact that it was completed, with no personal details attached. This is how we prove we honoured your request if you ever ask.

Records of administrator access to safety recordings

If an administrator ever opened a Women Safety recording, the record of who opened it and the written reason they gave is kept. This log holds no content from the recording. It exists so that access to sensitive audio always stays accountable, and it cannot be edited or erased by anyone.

Anything the law requires us to keep

If a court order or a legal obligation requires us to retain specific information, we keep only that, only for as long as required, and nothing more.

Deleting only some of your data

You do not have to delete your whole account to remove something. You can do all of this yourself, at any time, inside the app:

  • Delete a post — open your post, tap the three dots in the top corner, and choose Delete. This removes the post and its photos or videos for everyone.
  • Delete a private message — tap and hold your own message in a chat and choose Delete. It is removed for both people.
  • Delete a community message — tap your own message in a community chat and choose Delete.
  • Edit or clear your profile details — go to Profile, then Edit, and remove your photo, bio, location or any other detail you added.

If you want something removed that you cannot remove yourself, email support@janraksh.com and tell us exactly what to delete. We confirm it is you by SMS, the same way as above, and act within 30 days. Your account stays active.

One thing worth knowing first

If you only want to stop using JanRaksh for a while, you do not have to delete your account. You can simply sign out, or make your profile private in the app. Deletion is permanent, so it is worth being sure.
