Privacy Policy
Effective date: 25 July 2026. This Privacy Policy explains what JanRaksh (“we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and how we keep it secure.
1. Information we collect
- Account details: your mobile number, name and username.
- Verified identity (for verified users): your name, date of birth and gender, confirmed through UIDAI’s Aadhaar OTP e-KYC. We do NOT store your Aadhaar number — only your verified name and a masked reference.
- Optional profile details: email address, home area/address, bio and photo — added only if you choose to.
- Location: used to send and receive nearby SOS alerts and to show local content. Your live location is shared only during an SOS you raise, or when you accept one.
- Content: posts, comments, messages and media you create.
2. How we use your information
- To provide the service — verification, SOS alerts, the feed, communities and messaging.
- To keep the platform safe and trustworthy, and to act on reports of misuse.
- We do not sell your personal data.
3. How your data is stored and secured
All data is protected with strong encryption, both in transit (TLS) and at rest. Your verified details — name, email, address and phone number — are stored on secure, encrypted servers with strict access controls.
This verified information is accessed only in the event of a report or misuse on the platform. Every such access is recorded through a strict audit-logging system, so each look-up is traceable and accountable.
4. When we share information
- During an active SOS, the people you alert (and helpers who accept) can see your live location until the alert ends — this is the core safety feature and is under your control.
- Public profile fields (name, username, avatar) and content you post are visible in the app by design.
- We may disclose information if required by law or to prevent harm.
5. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us.
6. Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your personal information, and change your display name and privacy settings in the app at any time.
7. Children
JanRaksh is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction).
8. Changes
We may update this policy; we’ll post the new version here with a revised effective date.
